If You Are Blogging, You Aint Doing Shit…

i think that is what i just realized…
that statement is probably a little over the top and may have sprinkles of untruth,
but for the most part I think that’s the case.
People who are doing shit with their lives dont have time to sit down and go on websites and shit…
Thats why the people who are really doing shit with their lives, you will never hear about them.
Cause they are way too busy to care about publicizing themselves.

I can sleep when im dead
and yall can pour out liquor on my grave,
so i can drink when im dead.
bury me in a three piece Gucci suit,
so I can be stylin’ when im dead.

Cause while im alive I wont care about any of that shit.

Where we once walked…

sunday_january_28_2007

This is a photo of my dad… nearly 30 years ago…
Way before I was born…
In Brooklyn,
In a gas station on the corner of Flatbush Ave and Pacific Street, right by 5th ave…
He went there in hopes of a job,
A job towing old broken down cars…
There still are old broken cars around I suppose…
But the gas station isnt there anymore…
Torn down in hopes of a basketball arena that isnt coming anymore…
Thanks Bruce Ratner…. really…

I just saw this photo in my scrapbook and had a rush of zen-like nostalgia…
And I posted it for no other reason than that…

EDIT:
Before demolition:

After demolition:

Brooklyn is dying, and there aint no one to save her…

thanks to PHootprint for the links to those photos…

A Barn in the Woods…

New project Im working on for studio class. We are designing a studio/exhibition/charette space for the Master’s program for Sustainability at Philadelphia University, in theory of course. Program for this project follows along the guidelines of sustainability that has been the reoccurring theme throughout the semsester, even though I’m weary of how much the aspects of sustainability will actually be critiqued, that’s another story…

Anyway here are pics from my first model… Our mid critique is next week Thursday… I feel pretty good about it…

My concept is to recreate a barn. Yep a barn. The high ceilings of a typical barn allow for easy ventilation and it is easy to cool during summer months naturally. So far I am willing to leave the large interior spaces untouched to preserve the barn-like character and quality. Light comes in through the horizontal gaps between timber-wood beams and hopefully I will soon incorporate Over sized doors on the other side of that wall so they can open during warm months, effectively ventilating and dissolving the interior walls.

I also intend to cover the floor with maple wood flooring allowing light, even when it rains, to flow between the gaps in the walls and bounce off the glossy floor to give the interior a warm glow.
There is light truss work on the roof’s underbelly forming into lofts above the gallery spaces.

More to come, this project has me pretty excited… =)

The most Dangerous Place in the World…

… is your bed.

The Erie railroad kills 23 to 46; the other 845 railroads kill an average of one-third of a man each; and the rest of that million, amounting in the aggregate to that appalling figure of 987,631 corpses, die naturally in their beds! You will excuse me from taking any more chances on those beds. The railroads are good enough for me.

-Mark Twain excerpted from “The Danger of Lying in Bed”

…so continues my love/hate relationship with my refuge of rest otherwise known as my bed…

Look Mom, No Lights! [Light Studies]

These are Light studies that I did for the previous model that I posted…
I tried to imitate and stimulate the different angles of the sun during different times of day, e.g. sunrise, sunset, highnoon, evening, dusk, etc

One of the guest crits during my final presentation said he wasnt “…convinced…” by my light studies… whatever dude…

“Look Mom, No Lights!”: Final

Here are the final Models and Drawings for the meeting/meditation space I wrote about before. The model is at 1/4″ scale and is made mainly with different color matte board, foam core for wall thickness, and pre-cut basswood for trimmings. Also I used a little bit of fake grass for the path and acetate for windows. The site is extremely minimalistic, made with cardboard and wooden dowels for trees. This post will be image heavy, so those of you with slow internet connections, you know the deal…
